- This subject is much bigger than design. There's a lack of empathy in society at large. An example is a former first lady who was against the study of stem cell research, despite the possibilities it offered, but when stem cell research offered a potential cure for her husband, she changed her position, called lots of attention to it, and raised lots of money for it, which she's lauded for. So people who are already fighting for stem cell research to help with cures for other diseases or suffering while waiting for a potential cure, had to wait for things to specifically affect people in power before any real action was taken. We can't have a civil society if we only have empathy for our own relatives. This is not a sustainable way to govern or to maintain a functional society.
