- As a leader committed to demonstrating accountability, one of the most important responsibilities we have is creating an environment where every team member feels safe to speak up, take risks, make mistakes, and be their authentic selves without fear or ridicule, or retribution. I don't know about you, but I have experienced times when I did not feel safe to speak. It happened with leaders who shut me down, dismissed my ideas, or ignored me all together. It left me feeling overlooked and undervalued, and eventually, I left that leader. People don't leave bad jobs. They leave bad leaders. So allow me to leave you with five tips that worked for me in fostering psychological safety on my team. Model vulnerability and humility. I set the tone on my team by how I speak and treat them. I admit to my mistakes, I ask for feedback, and I'm willing to admit when I don't know, when I was wrong, or when I could use some help.…
