Spooky szn ✅ Festive szn ✅ Recruitment szn ✅ Graduate recruitment season - the Milkround - is in full swing, and we're nearly half way through(!), which means many of you have an assessment centre coming up before Christmas or early in the new year. To help you smash it, we’ve put together a no-nonsense guide to preparing for - and acing - your assessment centre. Full article is in the link in the comments.
The blog looks very helpful for students in navigating expectations of an assessment centre. In all honesty when I was at university I was somewhat mystified as to what the "milkround" was that people were talking about. It conjured up a vision of my village milkman! Maybe I should have engaged with the careers offering by my univserity a bit more, but then I was determined that a teaching career was what I wanted and have remained in the education sector ever since (with no regrets!)
My experience is that interviewers have your cv but others assessing group exercises etc don’t have your cv so you really are all equal at this point and have equal chance of success. I only mention this as some candidates may be less confident than others which would affect performance significantly.
I would also recommend speaking to your University Careers Service (may be biased!) but we can help talk through things you might be nervous about and offer more tips, as well as potentially funding to help towards transport, accommodation and clothing costs. It is worth checking with the employer to see if they can help towards these costs too
It may seem like a small point, but organisations will give you something to eat at in-person assessment centres that last across lunchtime (We had someone ask if they should pack a sandwich this week, which was a great question as no one performs well hungry)
