Diego Saez Gil’s Post

I'm very excited for the unveiling of the shared vision of the #VCM+ Coalition, of which Pachama is a proud member. This is a global initiative to build the next-generation verified carbon market, unifying and accelerating action across the carbon market ecosystem. The vision is anchored in five pillars: ✅ High-Integrity Science ✅ Robust Oversight ✅ Trusted Communications ✅ Targeted Finance ✅ Scaled Demand It aims to deliver 5 billion cumulative tons of CO₂e reduced or removed between 2026 and 2035 and mobilize an additional $100 billion in climate finance, across voluntary and compliance systems while restoring trust, improving outcomes for communities and nature, and building a high-integrity, equitable, and scalable market. This is the result of years of gatherings of the best minds in the market, whom with the best intentions for all came together to tackle the biggest challenges and establish the strongest foundation from where to build for the decades ahead. The 5 billion ton target is ambitious, but the real test will be how we get there. I'm most interested in the "Robust Oversight" pillar because that's where trust has historically broken down in VCMs. Question: How does the Coalition plan to address permanence and additionality concerns that have plagued earlier carbon credit schemes?

Diego Saez Gil exciting news indeed! When you say ~5 billion tons of “high-integrity” CO₂e, will VCM+ focus mainly on long-term removals… or will avoidance-style credits also count toward that goal?
