Today I shared some important personal and company news: after much consideration and planning, I will be stepping down as Etsy’s CEO at the end of the year and transitioning to the role of Executive Chair through 2026. With that, I am thrilled to pass the baton to the incredible @Kruti Patel Goyal who will become Etsy’s next CEO effective January 1. Leading this company over the past 8.5 years has been the privilege of a lifetime. When I joined Etsy, we were facing some big challenges: decelerating growth, accelerating competition, and the perception that Etsy had already reached its peak. But this remarkable, tenacious team saw opportunity everywhere, and together we transformed the company in ways that far exceeded expectations. Now Etsy is one of the most popular and loved e-commerce sites in the world, serving more than 5 million sellers and 85 million buyers. We’ve shown time and again that creativity and purpose can thrive at scale: stepping up during the pandemic, supporting small businesses through global crises, and continuing to grow while staying true to our values. I couldn’t be prouder of what this team has accomplished. Now, it’s time for the next evolution. Once again, I see enormous opportunity ahead. Kruti brings deep customer insight, a bold vision for growth, and the leadership to help Etsy reach even greater heights. I’ll be cheering her and the entire team on as they embrace change and build the future. To everyone I’ve had the privilege of working with: thank you. Your creativity, passion, and resilience have made these years immensely fulfilling. And congratulations, Kruti — Etsy couldn’t be in better hands.
What a terrific run, Josh! Etsy is one of those platforms that just keeps going, across borders, across time. I have used Etsy throughout my globetrotting life, and I can truly say that this is a global platform! Congratulations on your leadership and your next endeavours! Happy to hear that you'll still be involved as Chair.
Congrats Josh. Amazing job. Perhaps with the "down time" before the next step you help the GSB or HBS write a case study on turn around execution and your leadership.
What you guys have accomplished is nothing short of extraordinary, Josh. I can't wait to see what you do next.
Wow! 🤩 Josh, so so many congratulations. Thank you for your incredible leadership and for setting an example for others one what it means to be a good leader and a good person.
Woot, congrats Josh!
Josh, you have always been a great leader and a class act -- way back to leading us to get burgers at Clown Alley before crunching models for the Mayo Clinic. Whatever your next chapter, it will be remarkable. And the team at Etsy will continue to reflect on what you taught them, and how you showed up, just as so many of us continue to draw on those experiences. Bravo.
Congratulations! What a job you’ve done there, an inspiration to so many of us. I only know Kruti by reputation; clearly ETSY passing from one great leader to another. Excited to see what you all do next 👊🏾
Congrats Josh. We have experienced the rise and evolution of Etsy under you. I’m happy to hear that you’ll continue to guide Etsy while giving yourself “the gift of time” to do the other things you love too!
Josh You’ve always led with compassion and heart — with integrity as strength and brilliance as your constant companion. We’re all better for our paths having crossed, even in small ways, with yours. You said Etsy has “shown time and again that creativity and purpose can thrive at scale,” but to me, that’s a reflection of your guiding hand at the wheel. Thank you for all you’ve given to creators, artists, and those who value them.
