How Agentic AI is Revolutionizing Observability

🚀 Agentic AI is reshaping observability — fast. In this New Stack article I share my thoughts on how agentic AI is moving teams from reactive monitoring to proactive, autonomous resilience. A few quick takeaways: 🔍 From monitoring → action: Agentic AI doesn’t just surface issues — it diagnoses, prioritizes, and can take corrective steps autonomously. 🛡 Accountability matters: As systems get more complex, governance, transparency, and auditability must be built in from day one. ⚙️ Operational impact: Teams spend less time firefighting and more time innovating, with lower MTTR and stronger system reliability. Great post Vikram Murali . Very practical. Wanted to add a couple of points I found in the last 6 months in the agentic trenches :) with customers and my own prototyping. It’s all about trust. 1. Trust comes from control and traceability. We must show how an agent reached a decision, what data it used, and why it triggered an action. CAIR (Confidence in AI Results) is an optimisable metric that gives us a clear way to do this, with control, assurance, interpretability, and responsibility baked into the workflow. If teams see the reasoning trail, they trust the system. CAIR was proposed by LangChain and we have used the principles to optimise UX design to build trust in usage of AI, in IBM Network Intelligence. Worth a look into CAIR. Instana is great for LLM & agent observability - for spans and end to end traces which is key . 2. Production use cases needs hard guardrails. We need limits on scope, policy checks before action, full audit logs, and fast rollback paths. This keeps agents safe in high stakes environments and stops silent drift. Operators accept agent outputs when the safety net is visible and easy to review.

One of the best articulations I’ve seen on why autonomy requires transparency, MELT-level visibility, and real guardrails. Thank you for the insight.

Insightful piece! Agentic AI is definitely pushing observability into a new era. Love the point about accountability being built in from the start — governance is often overlooked but so critical.

So great working with you on this Vikram Murali! The piece came out beautifully, thank you for sharing your expertise!
