Productive day in #Edinburgh meeting the Competition and Markets Authority to discuss how the UK can establish the right kind of regulatory environment to support video games and interactive entertainment as an industry with high growth potential. Huge thanks to industry representatives including Justin Alae-Carew from Blazing Griffin, Douglas Hare from Outplay Entertainment Ltd, Andy Tomlinson from Electronic Arts (EA), Daniel Penfold from Warner Brothers Discovery and Tim Scott from Roblox for sharing your perspective and expertise - plus of course my fantastic Ukie/Interactive Entertainment Scotland colleagues Dominic Murphy and Gabriella Castaneda. The UK games industry operates within a broad regulatory context including a degree of self-regulation as well as compliance with existing consumer-facing frameworks. It was good to talk from a positive, future-facing perspective about getting the balance right to create the right conditions for games businesses to succeed. The main message? Games are a success story, we operate in a highly competitive market and we have demonstrated a strong commitment to self-regulation and compliance. We welcome dialogue and co-design with regulatory authorities to ensure that the rules governing the growth of our industry are appropriate and proportionate to the dynamics of our industry. We got a great reception from CMA colleagues, who entered into the discussion in a real spirit of dialogue, discovery and opportunity. I look forward to continuing the conversation as we look to grow the industry across #Scotland and the rest of the UK. #Supercharged #growth #UKganes
