What happens when a team of public hospital ophthalmologists takes half a day to pause, breathe, and rediscover their strengths? Transformation! Quiet, powerful, and deeply human. A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of facilitating “Strengths in Service”, a Strengths-based Team Building Workshop for an incredible group of doctors who work in one of the most demanding, high-volume environments. Despite the pace and pressure of their daily reality, they showed up with openness, authenticity, and a genuine desire to grow, both as individuals and as a department. Our journey unfolded in four stages: 1. Know Yourself 2. Lead Yourself 3. Know Your Team 4. Collaborate with Your Team And then came this reflection from one participant, a line that says everything: “The program helped me understand myself and my colleagues. It inspired me to invest in my talents and be more collaborative for the betterment of the department.” This is why I do this work. When doctors, often carrying emotional load and clinical pressure, reconnect with their strengths, something shifts: - more self-awareness - more compassion - more patience - more collaboration - more pride in the work they do and the people they do it with To the entire Optha Squad of Mandaluyong City Medical Center: Thank you for your courage, authenticity, humor, and heart. You are the heroes of this story, and it was an honor to witness your energy and commitment. A special appreciation to my co-facilitator, Maria Avelet Albor-Bautista, CTEP, FAAFM, AFP, RFP, whose presence, insight, and energy elevated the experience for everyone. Grateful to have shared this meaningful work with you. To the leaders who champion growth and malasakit: thank you for believing in the power of people. Here’s to a department that leads with strengths, serves with heart, and grows together. A special thank you as well to our workshop hosts, Haven by the Lake, Cavinti, Laguna, and their president, Joan Vitug, for providing such a restorative space. #CliftonStrengths #TeamDevelopment #LeadershipDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth #SelfLeadership #Collaboration
