Annabel Quinn’s Post

With the introduction of ChatGPT we are seeing a lot of American spelling in CV's, cover letters and even emails. Ask ChatGPT to use UK or NZ spelling as when we see "optimize" instead of "optimise" we can be sure that AI wrote it. AI also uses phrases like "proven track record" or "instrumental in..." which is another giveaway when we're looking at CV's. AI can be a great help in your writing, especially if English is your second language, but in order to stand out as a candidate, we like to read your voice and get a feel for you and your experience in what you're sending us. (This hasn't been written using AI 😂)

Every other post on here is: "AI is the future" "AI will replace entry level jobs" "Everyone needs to embrace AI" but also: "Don't use AI to write your resume" "Don't use AI to scan my resume" "Don't use AI to write your cover letter" the whiplash is astounding.

We don't write CVs with AI, but the MS Word editor in NZ Proofing Language settings now makes the "s" into "z" too! To be honest, I have scores of Canadian and US candidates moving from US/Canada to Aus/NZ, and if their CVs have "z" instead of "s" it will definitely not disqualify them ;)

I originally write words with a z instead of an s, how is that a problem in CVs?

Is it an english teaching vacancy or something totally unrelated? Come on.

Nice one Annabel. FYI all - we don't use AI detectors at FIND. But some companies would. This post is just a tip. There are many tips out there, combined they will help maximise your chances of getting a job interview. The choice is always yours as to whether you want to follow the tip. With some prompting, tools like chatGPT can be very good in helping you shape a CV with your tone of voice.

I usually use “proven track record” before the wide use of AI in CVs. Would that make recruiters think I totally rely on AI to tailor my resume?! I look forward for the day when potentials can be appreciated beyond mere resumes.

I honestly can't tell if this is meant to be satirical or if you actually believe that you'd be able to tell the difference between something that AI wrote and something that a person took their time to type to fit, ensure it was eloquent enough to grab attention, and submit. As others have said, if the qualifications are there, why aren't you speaking with the candidate? I can have 500 different companies tailor a resume for me, would you accept one of those in someone else's words instead? This is a disturbing insight into how your team handles candidates.

If you were not using ATS robot, I wouldn’t have migrated to that point.. the level of sending CVs with no response is truly frustrating, worst when you send an email and get a rejection immediately at midnight.. 🙌🏽 though I understand the awareness you are raising, noted.

If the hiring process becomes realistic, this could go down for a long time.
