Empathy, collaboration, and emotional intelligence aren’t “soft.” They’re how high-trust teams ship hard things—faster. Women leaders often set the tone here: clear communication, psychological safety, and crisp accountability. What I’m standardizing: - Manager training on feedback that’s candid and humane. - Team rituals that build trust (retros, 1:1s, inclusive decision logs). - Scorecards that track engagement, retention, and cross-functional velocity. When EQ is built into the operating system, culture and results compound. #Leadership #EmotionalIntelligence #WomenInLeadership #BeginningAcademy #WorkplaceWellness #FutureOfWork #EmpathyAtWork

EQ isn’t a bonus trait—it’s a competitive edge. Leaders who regulate under pressure and communicate with empathy lower attrition, raise engagement, and ship better work. My bar for promotion: not just what you deliver, but how you lead. Women leaders often set the pace here—and teams feel the difference.

More lessons from the Leasership panel at the Termeer Institute women’s retreat - Leadership panel led by Cissy Young, PhD (楊 詩華) with panelists Sarah Gheuens Alicia Secor Jodie Morrison (She/Her) Kelley Boucher and ling zeng Thank you, amazing leaders, for sharing these insightful reflections and advice on team building and culture: A company’s performance is deeply tied to its culture. A team that feels driven, cared for, and connected will work harder, think smarter, and stay through difficult moments. Culture truly eats strategy for breakfast. 💛 Care + Drive is a superpower — especially for women leaders. There’s a myth that showing care makes you “soft.” In reality, women often lead with both empathy and intensity. Caring can look like helping someone who no longer fits the organization find a soft landing elsewhere — while still driving the team to high performance. 🎯 Aim high. Blaze new trails. Care deeply. This cultural foundation is what keeps talent from leaving when times get tough. 🌱 Driving Change As a company moves from preclinical to clinical, from early concept to execution, the skills needed change. Culture and shared values guide these transitions — allowing necessary change without creating fear or chaos. 🧠 Leadership means building the best team — and getting the best from them. Bring HR strategy in early. It’s not just about hiring talent — it’s about how you organize, empower, and develop that talent. • Complement your strengths. • When people feel safe and valued, they have the confidence to hire others who are even stronger. • Every senior hire reshapes the team. Treat each one as a strategic choice. 💬 Vulnerability is a leadership accelerator. Early in their careers, many women focus on perfection and having all the answers. But true leadership comes from: • Delegating, • Letting the team find solutions, • Sharing who you are and what you need. Being real builds trust — and trust builds followership. 🌍 Cultivate an enterprise mindset. No silos. No politics. No “this is my lane.” Everyone — regardless of function — must care about the science, the finance, the culture, the mission. If someone repeatedly hoards information, plays power games, or undermines trust — they’re simply not a fit. 🌟 And a reminder: As CEO, you are leading the team — not part of it. Your job is to create clarity, alignment, and a shared sense of success.

💙 Empathy: The Leadership Superpower That Drives Inclusion Inclusion isn’t just about policies—it’s about people. And at the core of inclusive workplaces is one critical leadership skill: empathy. Leaders who lead with empathy build trust, foster engagement, and create environments where employees feel psychologically safe to bring their full selves to work. Yet, despite its power, empathy is often undervalued in leadership training. Why Empathy Matters in the Workplace 💡 Employees don’t leave companies; they leave managers. Studies show that people who feel seen, heard, and valued by leadership are more engaged, productive, and loyal to their organisations. How to Practise Empathy in Leadership: ✔️ Listen to understand, not just to reply – Give employees space to express concerns without rushing to solve. ✔️ Validate different perspectives – Recognise that employees experience workplace challenges differently based on their backgrounds, identity, and lived experiences. ✔️ Act on feedback – It’s not enough to listen; leaders must act on employee concerns to build an environment of trust and inclusion. A Challenge for Leaders: Think about a time when an empathetic leader made a difference in your career. What did they do differently? How did it impact your confidence, productivity, or sense of belonging? 💬 Let’s Talk: How do you integrate empathy into leadership? What’s the best example of an empathetic leader you’ve seen? Let’s discuss below. ⬇️ #EmpathyAtWork #InclusiveCulture #LeadershipDevelopment
