Healthcare equity extends beyond patients - it also includes providers. To close patient outcome gaps, we must address fragmentation among the clinicians who serve them. This means supporting independent practices, giving physicians a seat at the table, and aligning care under value-based frameworks. At Healthcare Outcomes Performance Co. (HOPCo), physician leadership isn't just a buzzword, it's our operating model. Physician integration is crucial to achieving healthcare equity. Independent practices often face significant challenges, including limited resources and administrative burdens. By supporting these practices, we can ensure that all providers have the tools and support they need to deliver high-quality care. Giving physicians a seat at the table is essential to ensure that their voices are heard and their expertise is valued. Aligning care under value-based frameworks ensures that all providers are working towards the same goals, with incentives that reward high-quality, equitable care. #PhysicianLeadership #HealthcareEquity #MarketTransformation Southeast Orthopedic Specialists Indiana Orthopedic Institute Orthopedic & Spine Centers of Wisconsin Northern Arizona Orthopaedics, Ltd. AMSURG ASCs have shown that innovation and excellence can go hand in hand. Procedures like total joint replacement are an example of this. Patients benefit from shorter stays, faster recovery times and personalized care without compromising safety or quality. “That really has been a game-changer in the way of recovery and satisfaction from patients and their families,” said AMSURG physician partner Thomas E. Bates, M.D., who has been doing outpatient total joint replacements at The Surgical Center of Morehead City, in North Carolina, for several years. SickKids launched the BRIDGE Program — Bladder Reconstruction, Independence Development and Diversions for Genitourinary Empowerment. This first-of-its-kind initiative unites clinical care, research, education and surgery to transform outcomes for patients with neurogenic and myogenic bladder disorders. In partnership with Sunnybrook and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, the BRIDGE program is building a collaborative, multi-institutional model that ensures continuity of care from childhood to adulthood — while creating a sustainable pipeline of expertise. At the heart of BRIDGE is a joint fellowship in paediatric and adult reconstructive urology, training future specialists to expand services worldwide. 🌍 Grounded in evidence-based innovation, BRIDGE is also advancing reconstruction science through clinical trials and surgical optimization. SickKids' Combined Transition Clinic, launched during the pandemic, is preparing to extend its impact globally — with next steps in the Philippines and Vietnam. “We’re not just delivering care — we’re building systems that will transform bladder reconstruction worldwide," says Program Lead Dr Michael Chua. 👏 Congratulations to the teams and partners driving this ambitious and inspiring initiative forward!

Challenging a Core Assumption in MSK Care. Do not cluster every patient into the same bucket. Use objective measures, but identify the "Source of truth" and the reliability of these measures. Case in point below: the use of TUG to identify future recovery potential. TUG is the low threshold objective measure. Explore what is available, including organizations that are offering a greater level of value/validity in objective measures and biomarker recovery like OneStep. This research on early, high-intensity physical therapy after Total Knee Arthroplasty TKA suggests we may need to rethink how we use "recovery trajectories" to predict patient success. Classifying patients into a 'High-Gain' or 'Low-Gain' group based on their 10-day walking-speed progress, this early-phase trajectory did not predict their functional outcome at 6 weeks or 1 year post-TKA. The #1 Takeaway for Clinicians: All patients achieved a sufficient, high functional level by one year, irrespective of their initial speed of recovery. We can confidently reassure patients who are improving more slowly early on that excellent long-term function remains a realistic and achievable goal. Let's focus on steady, personalized progress over speed. #MSK #PhysicalTherapy #TKA #Orthopedics #Rehabilitation #EvidenceBasedPractice #HealthcareOutcomes

Advocacy in Action at the CSNS Meeting 🧠 It’s inspiring to see the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS) taking proactive steps to advocate for neurosurgeons—particularly around coding and RVU recognition for endoscopic spine surgery (CPT 62380). The resolution discussed today underscores the importance of collaboration between the CSNS, AANS/CNS Washington Committee, and the Joint Section on Spine and Peripheral Nerves to ensure fair valuation and proper acknowledgment of the complexity of endoscopic spine procedures. This kind of advocacy is essential for aligning policy with innovation—ensuring that as neurosurgeons push the field of minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery forward, our reimbursement models and coding structures evolve with us. Grateful for all those working behind the scenes to make progress possible. 👏 #Neurosurgery #SpineSurgery #Advocacy #CSNS #EndoscopicSpine #Innovation #HealthcarePolicy #RVUs Council of State Neurosurgical Societies AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS)

A groundbreaking study and collaboration from ATI Physical Therapy and the Duke Clinical Research Institute shows that removing copays for physical therapy can dramatically reduce the use of costly downstream services including imaging, injections, and surgery. Key Takeaways compared to traditional care pathways: ♦7% lower imaging and inpatient care ♦16% fewer surgeries/injections ♦57% fewer physician services This study published in the PTJ: Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Journal is more than just data. It’s proof of concept that innovative payment models can improve access, promote early conservative care, and meaningfully reduce healthcare costs. These findings strengthen the case for policy and reimbursement reform that puts patients first and values early, evidence-based #MSK care. Congrats to the authors after many years of work on this publication including Trevor Lentz, Adam Lutz PT, DPT, PhD, MBA, Uchechukwu Ikeaba, Brooke Alhanti, Steven George Chad Cook and Chuck Thigpen.
