Episode 8 of Free-ish in Higher Ed drops August 11. I sat down with Lynne Hamblin to talk about adult education and what it is really like to return to school later in life without a high school diploma. Lynne has transformed her own journey into hope for others, showing how students can thrive with the right support. Today she is not only a peer leader but also an advocate for policies that strengthen adult education programs, connect students with resources, and create clear pathways to success through community college. Adult education and GED programs open the door to higher education for so many who once thought it was out of reach.

🗞️ 𝘛𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘹𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦: In Tennessee, students who were the furthest behind 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗶𝗻-𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Four school districts teamed up with SCORE and Accelerate to bring more high-quality tutoring into the school day, making sure it matched what students were already learning in class. 📈 What happened? Students in the lowest percentiles made more progress when they got this aligned, high-dosage tutoring than with traditional intervention. Even students just slightly behind showed greater growth with this approach. This shows that when tutoring is consistent and connected to classroom learning, it works, especially for those who need it most.
