The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) kicked off the pilot of the 'Strategic Energy Access Planning Support (SEAPS)' programme, an initiative delivered with Ministère de l'Energie, du Pétrole et des Mines - MEPM, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Climate Compatible Growth, and supported by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway and Wallonia.be/en. These trainings are a key component of IRENA and Senegal’s Masterplan Development Support Programme, ongoing since 2023 to improve #energy planning capacity. With the aim of supporting countries in achieving universal electricity access through coordinated, data-driven strategies, SEAPS brings a step change for national planners. By integrating geospatial #electrification analysis modelling or planning for electricity access, optimising local #renewable resources: decentralised renewable energy (DRE) like off-grid solar. It enables coherent, least-cost strategies grounded in real demand, real geography and real investment needs. This approach strengthens national ownership and supports transparent, actionable decisions that reflect communities’ lived realities. As Senegal applies SEAPS insights to its 'National Least Cost Investment Plan (PIMC)', the programme contributes to a broader global effort to expand sustainable DRE solutions, ensuring no community is left behind. Anchored in the ambition to #3xRenewables capacity and advance #SDG7, we invite governments and partners to explore SEAPS and get the needed tailored support to unlock resilient and inclusive electrification pathways.
