Deputy CEO, Liberal Seburikoko, was featured on BBC programme The Inquiry: 'Is trouble brewing for the worldwide tea industry?', discussing the new frontiers being carved within tea production amidst a background of drastically shifting climate conditions. The growing conditions required for tea are becoming increasingly insecure, with increases in erratic rainfall, prolonged droughts and higher temperatures. As Liberal describes, "For many farmers, climate change isn't an abstract idea. It is the difference between a healthy harvest, and a failed one." Up to 40% of tea growing lands could become obsolete with the need for higher altitudes in recreating the conditions necessary for growth, resulting in a redrawing of the global tea map. But, where new challenges arise, innovative adaptions are being formed, primarily through the development of technologies such as drones monitoring remote fields to detect potential issues like pest infestation, and improvements in meteorological information.
