Exela defines Operations Supervisor role with DACUM

Exela Pharma Sciences recently completed a DACUM (Developing A Curriculum) workshop to define the essential duties, competencies, and performance expectations of the Operations Supervisor role. This initiative is a cornerstone of Exela’s strategic workforce development efforts, aimed at enhancing leadership capability, driving performance excellence, and supporting career progression within its manufacturing operations. Facilitated by Master DACUM Practitioner Celeste Brantolino, Senior Director of Learning & Development, and documented by Instructional Designer Torie Hicks, the workshop brought together a panel of high-performing Exela Operations Supervisors—Britney Mast, Cori Williams, and Ralph Odreman—who collaborated to define the core duties, critical tasks, decision-making responsibilities, and leadership behaviors essential to success in the role. The result is a practical, performance-based profile that accurately reflects the demands of frontline operational leadership in a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. “Supervisors play a vital role in translating strategy into action,” said Tracy Canipe, Vice President of Operations and Engineering at Exela Pharma Sciences. “This DACUM gives us a clear, reliable foundation to develop targeted training, measure leadership readiness, and build meaningful career paths for our operations leaders.” Key outcomes of the Operations Supervisor DACUM include: - A clearly defined set of core duties and competencies for the role - Input to design performance-based leadership training and mentorship programs - Frameworks for skills assessment and talent identification - Support for career development and succession planning across Operations Don Overton, Vice President of Human Resources and Finance also added, “By leveraging the DACUM process, we now have a clearly defined competency model that will support high-impact training, leadership readiness, and a robust internal talent pipeline.” By aligning its leadership development efforts with actual job performance expectations, Exela ensures its supervisors are equipped to lead teams effectively, uphold quality standards, and drive continuous improvement. Building on the success of this workshop, Exela plans to conduct additional DACUM sessions across other leadership and technical roles. Pictured from Left to Right: Celeste C.
