But to express oneself honestly, not lying to oneself. And to express myself honestly now that my friend is. It's very hard to do and you have to train, you have to keep your reflexes so that when you want it, it's there. A lot of what he's saying resonates with me really heavily because it's similar to how I think about freestyling. To him, martial arts is about genuinely and like truthfully expressing yourself, right? That's very difficult to do and one has to train really hard in order to be able to express themselves authentically. And I love that. And that's how I, I try to think about freestyling as well. And I've talked about this quite a bit where it's like I practice, especially the fundamentals. But I practice everything having to do with with freestyling as much as I can so that those techniques are there for me instantaneously as soon as I need them in order to express whatever the message is that's authentically rising up within me. So I really, really resonate with that. And actually, there's this great jazz pianist named Kenny Werner who wrote a book called Effortless Mastery. Kenny Werner said something to the effect of like, Oh yeah, of course. Like, I always want more technique. Basically, like, why wouldn't I want to further declutter? The channel between me and the muse so that I can express the deepest art more effortlessly. Feel like that's what Bruce Lee is getting at when he's saying in order to express yourself truthfully and authentically, you have to train so that all the techniques are right there, instantaneously accessible, so you can be in that flow state, right? Because like the the quickest way to get pulled out of flow state is when you hit up against a technical limitation.
