Even for leaders like H&M, known for publishing supplier lists and climate goals, the report highlights a clear message: transparency doesn’t always mean transformation. Only 14% average transparency was recorded across 200 major brands, with fewer than 10% disclosing renewable energy targets in their supply chains. This means most fashion players, even the big names, still have a long way to go in supporting suppliers with clean energy and decarbonisation. For manufacturing countries like Bangladesh, this matters deeply. One of fashion's main obstacles in advancing sustainability is that we rarely look at solutions across tiers and impact categories. Heat pumps perhaps at a first glance don't have anything to do with next gen materials. Enter Shivam Gusain's Double Dividend Protocol. Implementing a heat pump or a waterless dyeing machine has a high CapEx, but over time saves on OpEx. Typically, next gen materials run at a higher cost. If we looked at implementing these two changes at the same time, the OPEX savings of the machinery can balance out the increased cost of the materials. At Aii we focus on the wet processing machinery side. But we also like to pilot new ways of working and while our upcoming call for grants focuses on electrification or electrification enabling processing equipment, we'd be so excited for the chance to test Shivam's Double Dividend Protocol.
