A recent Humana Healthcare Research survey provides important insights into how Medicare Advantage members perceive and value supplemental benefits, and why they matter. Nearly 6,000 beneficiaries enrolled in Humana Medicare Advantage plans participated in this survey designed to better understand how they view and use supplemental benefits. The survey included questions about longer-standing options like dental and vision care to expanded offerings like grocery assistance. The findings were noteworthy: • 94% agree supplemental benefits can improve health • 91% agree they can save individuals money • Non-use is most often due to lack of need—not barriers or lack of awareness • Opportunities exist to improve communication and usability With more than half of eligible Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans, the knowledge gained from this research plays a pivotal role in informing ongoing efforts to educate members about their supplemental benefits and improve engagement.
