nothing new from trump davos speech other than saying he wouldn’t use force against greenland…which was never on the table. will make headlines. but carney’s speech is the one that mattered.
EU put troops, got Tariffs in return for its behavior(Monroe Doctrine)into US Sphere of Influence into N.America,by pushing Denmark to hold Greenland,Iceland to join the EU for Arctic Control.US has no choice-to push for Free Greenland Greenland Colony still under Danish rule without their consent, even though Denmark lost control to Nazis in WW2(sold to US-1867-Seward-Johnson but for Politics)&still under full military control of US EU can’t push US Govt, like prior Ukraine War in 2014/Impeach US President with Socialist Congress in 2019 for Ukraine or push Biden into Ukraine 2022 War Denmark should Free Greenland, has no direct real claim over it,comes thro Colonial rule of Norway, from 14th Cent Denmark should have treated Greenlanders, not a Colony, like Africa in 19th Century, but the same way Norway as Free Country It took Norway several wars to get out of Denmark, then from Sweden/Nazi Germany in 19/20Century,chose its own course Denmark abused Greenlanders to Population control by IUDs for Youth during 1966-1990s & caught on Human Right abuse/Colonialism,might chose to side with US Greenland vital for US Security-Artic NorthWest Passage-US-NATO-Golden Dome/Nuclear/Space Shield than China-Russia-Polar Silk Road-Cold War
Some of his more embarrassing drivel. However, there is now so much of it...
Mark Carney at least exposed some suffocated truths that never told any Western leader before. Carney is saying: The comfortable old world where Canada could just be nice, follow rules, and rely on the US umbrella is gone. We're now in a tougher, more dangerous era where might often makes right. Canada can't fix this alone, and pretending otherwise is self-deception. But we don't have to accept permanent weakness. By being honest, getting much stronger at home, and teaming up smartly with other similar countries, Canada and others can help build a new, better system—one that actually protects sovereignty, human rights, and prosperity for everyone except the bullies. It's a call for clear-eyed optimism: stop mourning the past, face reality, and actively shape a future where middle powers have real influence.
You don't know that the use of force was never on the table. Previously, he didn't comment on it.
The real question is will this promise not to use “military” force to acquire Greenland be enough to walk Senate Republicans worried about midterms from the rail an jumping ship or conspiring to make Trump walk the plank? Military force was this glaring and bright red line. But Trump still seems bent on using poltical and economic force as well as deafening rhetoric to get his way, all which will still likely push away our allies and drawn punitive economic counter measures to any Trump tariffs or other economic pressure. He is also chasing out one time close partners into new economic relationships with China that weaken U.S. and strengthen China. At the very least Trump is hastening his transition into lame duck status. But the more bizarre, inexplicable and damaging his behavior become the greater the possibility of needing to invoke the 25th Amendment. Many Senators may be willing to let the nation take a few to the chin rather than cross Trump. They will be less likely to allow their own reelection campaigns take the hits.
I never thought they'd pull the trigger with China. Feels like a bad move (Xi and the party is in power forever, Trump is in power for 3 years). But Trump forced their hand for short term results.
Carney “mattered”, just not how you wish. Carney at BoE opposed Brexit, preferring UK to remain within EU vassalage. Carney now simultaneously rejects vassalage and throws his country on the tender mercies of the PRC. Carney's supposed resolve exists against the backdrop of Canada not spending to NATO requirements and its pledge to spend 5% on defense *by 2035*. It also exists against your own straddling: the U.S. is simultaneously the greatest risk (sorry, totalitarians!) and the most investable economy.
As an American, I am totally embarrassed
