Komatsu celebrates the season of Shichi-Go-San. Shichi-Go-San (7-5-3) is the day of the rite of passage for three- and seven-year-old girls and five-year-old boys. Passed down from the Heian Period (794 to 1185), this tradition is usually observed on the weekend nearest to November 15. Dressed in traditional Japanese formal wear, the children with their parents and grandparents visit shrines for ritual blessings. After filling smartphones with hundreds of adorable photos, it’s home to celebrate.
