With both great sadness and profound reverence, we remember the life and legacy of Robert A.M. Stern—an architect, educator and historian whose outsized influence shaped generations and expanded the cultural impact of American design. Across seven decades, Stern’s work championed the dialogue between tradition and innovation, reinforcing architecture as a continuum that connects past, present and future. His leadership at RAMSA, his contributions to preservation and education, and his unwavering commitment to principled design leave an immeasurable imprint on our built environment. We are honored for the opportunity to have collaborated with him and his studio, and we’re grateful to see his vision carried forward in the spaces and communities his work continues to inspire. Our thoughts are with the RAMSA team, his colleagues, students, mentees and all who were touched by his extraordinary career.
