Last Friday, I had the pleasure of spending the first half of the day in an inspiring conversation on the Future of Workspaces. It was an insightful morning exploring Leesman ’s new research, Rhythms, which examines evolving patterns of employee behaviour in a hybrid working week — from the changing role of the commute to new rhythms of presence and work. Together with Paul Casey, Pierrick Masure, and workplace leaders, we unpacked findings from the Leesman Index: - Commute matters – it truly sets the tone for the day. The data shows that employees with shorter or active commutes report the highest satisfaction, while longer journeys can reduce workplace experience. The commute isn’t just a hurdle — it’s part of the workday rhythm that influences energy, engagement, and wellbeing. - Presence shapes experience – with 88% of employees now working in a hybrid pattern, the quality of office time depends on variety, flexibility, and support. Workplaces offering diverse settings — from focus zones to collaborative areas — see higher satisfaction and stronger team connection. When people enjoy being in the office, they choose to be there. - Work activities are diversifying – hybrid work has reshaped daily tasks. Beyond focused work, employees are spending more time in video meetings, creative thinking, and learning from others. This growing mix calls for spaces that adapt — balancing concentration with collaboration, and structure with spontaneity. The panel discussion, featuring Prof. Dr. Michael Truebestein FRICS , Alex Wilkins, and Susanne Danhieux MRICS , added real-world perspective from Roche and Zurich Insurance. A big thank you to Zurich Insurance for hosting us — it was a pleasure to see your beautiful office space and hear how you have adapted it to new work styles. Special thanks to Philipp Berlinger and Michael W. Kernen for the masterclass in change management — showing how you used occupancy data from Tango Occupancy Module to guide your transformation: reducing space while enhancing collaboration zones, upgrading hybrid meeting rooms, and refreshing the work environment to be more flexible, inviting, and sustainable. For me personally, it was truly inspiring to hear this story. As part of the Tango team, and with Zurich Insurance as one of our valued partners, it’s rewarding to see how our data helps enable meaningful workplace transformation. Reliable, transparent occupancy insights empower confident decisions that put people first — from redesigning collaboration zones to upgrading hybrid meeting rooms and creating more flexible, inviting, and sustainable workspaces. This experience is a great reminder: data provides direction, but dialogue with employees gives it purpose. Seeing how evidence and empathy combine to drive real change is exactly why we do what we do. #HybridWork #FutureOfWork #WorkplaceStrategy #EmployeeExperience #DataDrivenDesign #Sustainability #ChangeManagement
