Mercedes-Benz AG’s Post

From 2026, we will bring steer-by-wire to series production, delivering a completely new driving feel and maximum safety. With no mechanical link between the steering wheel and front wheels, driver inputs are transmitted electronically for unparalleled precision. The result: ● Effortless manoeuvring without re-gripping ● More agility in the city and stability on the open road ● Perfect harmony with rear-axle steering It’s not just an innovation in steering – it’s a leap into the future of driving.

Steer-by-wire offers significant advantages for manufacturers and drivers. In addition to improved usability of the driving space and flexibility in production, safety features, comfort, and handling can also be improved. But why is steer-by-wire always associated with new steering wheel designs? I think the biggest enemy of innovation is unnecessarily abandoning old habits. Drivers are used to traditional steering wheels, and only a few will accept your joystick or a steering wheel borrowed from Formula 1.

At the same time, it seems to proudly offer low reliability while stripping away any sense of driving feel 🤔

Mercedes macht gerade alles falsch was man falsch machen kann 🙃

Steer-by-wire marks a bold step toward the future of mobility — redefining safety, agility, and driving experience. Exciting to see Mercedes-Benz pioneering this transformation.

“New steering experience combined with maximum safety”…that’s what we call an oxymoron. It’s impossible to counter steer to recover lost of grip with this type of steering shape.

I love the aesthetic. Two suggestions! 1. How about use a down facing crescent 🌙 moon shaped steering wheel. Drivers in America love to hold the top of the steering wheel. 2. Also how about having them come with both the physical connection and wireless. This way the customer can choose which diving experience they want. And it builds in a redundant safety default in the design to prevent issues and recalls. Keep doing what you are doing Mercedes! Keep your core values luxurious performance! Use the best materials don’t settle for good enough. And to be the best in class you have to up your reliability so the resell value remains high! That will change your customer from just “high end” to practical long term investors in the brand. Reach out if you need any consulting services.. 💯
