After more than 19 years with the continuum of Con Edison Solutions/Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses/RWE Clean Energy, this past Friday October 31 was the effective date of my retirement. Although I was among the first subscribers to LinkedIn after its 2003 launch, I rarely have posted except to occasionally congratulate someone on their post about a significant accomplishment. I have used LinkedIn to stay connected with the many people I have worked with but not to highlight anything about my work. However, this milestone seemed like the right time to thank all of the people who helped me on the journey to this point. Throughout my 39+ years in the energy industry, I have been fortunate to work with and among many outstanding professionals and many really good human beings. I am grateful to the CEOs that I have worked for who gave me opportunities to explore functions I had never before undertaken and to take our organizations into new markets. Thank you for your confidence. I am indebted to the teams that I worked with and that I led. The learnings are countless. Some relationships were situational, and some endure and will continue. Mentors have become friends. Friends have become mentors as well. I was fortunate to be in the energy industry at a time of significant change. From the opening of wholesale and retail electric and gas markets, with the resulting changes to vertically integrated utilities, to the explosive growth of renewables that we are still in the midst of, these changes provided a rich source of new business opportunities. Some shareholder value was created along the way and certain projects and deals definitely stand out as memorable. Equally memorable are the people that I have enjoyed this journey with. Although I am turning a page on a chapter, there is a fresh page to begin writing. While I haven’t taken the metaphorical pen to paper yet, I am as enthusiastic to explore this next chapter as I am thankful for the many individuals that have been part of the story so far...
i just saw this . Congratulations. I remember first coming into Measurement Services reporting to you. From the first day you trusted me and my judgement. Maybe not always the best but certainly always with the right intent. I learned a lot from you, John J. and Mars. What a team we all made. We did things that just were not "normal" in the utility world. Opened up so many eyes, including my own. I was stretched beyond what I thought was possible. That stayed with me for the balance of my career . In the end I became the leader of Measurement Services, and I attribute that growth to my time with you and the team. Welcome to the wonderful world of retirement. You'll find in time this is the best job you ever had...
Congrats Mike! I enjoyed working with you at several stops in my career, I certainly learned a lot about leadership and getting things done at a large company. You always created a great team environment and led us through a lot of ambiguity. Great contributions at ConEd including starting up several now $B organizations - look forward to your next chapter.
Mike, it was truly a pleasure working with you! Upon the JCI to CEB journey, you were an encouraging and calm voice through, at times, stormy seas! I valued being able to reach out to you with questions and asking for guidance which you always had an open door for. I wish you the best! My door too will always be open to you!
It was truly a pleasure to get to know you Michael! I cherish all our conversations starting with the very early ones around Integration! Wishing you only the very best!
Congratulations, Michael I feel as if I was on this journey in our industry with you . It was a pleasure getting to know you and to work with you .
Wow! Congratulations Mike! I can still remember when you joined us at the Con Ed. Doesn't seem like 19 years! All the best in retirement. Much deserved.
Congratulations Mike. You’re one of the best at what you do. Learned much from you. Let’s stay connected.
Mike, It was always a pleasure working with you back in the PS days. Congratulations, and best of luck in your new adventure! -B
Congrats Mike!
Mike, congratulations on your retirement! I the only thing more impressive than your extensive knowledge of the energy industry is your calm, even keel manner - no matter how crazy things got! You always set a great example to aspire to. Again, congratulations!
