Blackstone, KKR, TPG, Carlyle… the pitch is that scale brings more access, insights, and capabilities. But a few players have stayed (mostly) focused, like Hellman & Friedman and Thoma Bravo. Interestingly, they have delivered some of the best returns in the large-cap buyout universe.
