Shopify merchants reveal top trending products for fall and back-to-school season

As families get ready for fall and back-to-school season, U.S. shopping habits are shifting. We analyzed month-over-month sales from thousands of Shopify merchants to pinpoint July's trending products, and here’s what caught our attention: → Parents stocked up on baby essentials, with umbrella strollers (+1,125%) and baby bottles (+1,121%) both increasing by 11x, followed by bibs (+518%), onesies (+319%), and sippy cups (+278%). → Back-to-school shopping started early, with school uniform sales up 471%, and bulletin board trim (+261%) and lunch boxes (+157%) also rising. → College students are preparing for move-in day, with dorm essentials like ladder bookcases and shelves (+97%), storage ottomans (+92%), desk clocks (+63%), and reading lamps (+37%) in high demand. → Fall sports are on the horizon, and athletes are gearing up with dancing shoes (+301%), sports uniforms (+246%), track jackets (+99%), and cheerleading pom poms (+32%). → Tennis also saw high demand in July, with tennis shoes jumping 733%. Platform and paddle tennis paddles (+87%), racket grips and tape (+60%), and tennis balls (+28%) all increased. Entrepreneurs, what’s trending in your industry?

Seasonal Shift are part of what keep brands on thier toes. With each shift comes new straegy. Now with a generational shift the brands are taking on new way to market and position themself to the new genrations. This includes partents, college students, teens, and kids starting their first day in school. This is such a insightful analysis!

Wild how closely this lines up with what we’re seeing in our chatbot data. Parents ask about bottle types, get a quick explainer, and we immediately see a $27 higher AOV. same with dorm shoppers: bundles + “what else do I need?” prompts are crushing. Makes you think how much $$ gets left on the table without those micro-conversations.

In our world, we’re seeing the same early back-to-school momentum reflected across our Pipe17 merchants. It’s a powerful reminder that operational readiness matters as much as marketing timing!
