As families get ready for fall and back-to-school season, U.S. shopping habits are shifting. We analyzed month-over-month sales from thousands of Shopify merchants to pinpoint July's trending products, and here’s what caught our attention: → Parents stocked up on baby essentials, with umbrella strollers (+1,125%) and baby bottles (+1,121%) both increasing by 11x, followed by bibs (+518%), onesies (+319%), and sippy cups (+278%). → Back-to-school shopping started early, with school uniform sales up 471%, and bulletin board trim (+261%) and lunch boxes (+157%) also rising. → College students are preparing for move-in day, with dorm essentials like ladder bookcases and shelves (+97%), storage ottomans (+92%), desk clocks (+63%), and reading lamps (+37%) in high demand. → Fall sports are on the horizon, and athletes are gearing up with dancing shoes (+301%), sports uniforms (+246%), track jackets (+99%), and cheerleading pom poms (+32%). → Tennis also saw high demand in July, with tennis shoes jumping 733%. Platform and paddle tennis paddles (+87%), racket grips and tape (+60%), and tennis balls (+28%) all increased. Entrepreneurs, what’s trending in your industry?
Wild how closely this lines up with what we’re seeing in our chatbot data. Parents ask about bottle types, get a quick explainer, and we immediately see a $27 higher AOV. same with dorm shoppers: bundles + “what else do I need?” prompts are crushing. Makes you think how much $$ gets left on the table without those micro-conversations.
In our world, we’re seeing the same early back-to-school momentum reflected across our Pipe17 merchants. It’s a powerful reminder that operational readiness matters as much as marketing timing!

Fascinating insights - seasonal shifts like these are a great reminder of how dynamic shopper behavior really is. It’s a great time for brands to fine-tune their personalization and inventory strategies to meet demand where it’s going, not just where it’s been.
Great insights💡
Love this, Shopify. As a parent and someone juggling back-to-school chaos myself, this really hits home. Fall isn’t just about fresh notebooks and new shoes — it’s about resetting, refocusing, and getting life back into a rhythm. Appreciate how you’re shining a light on the emotional side of this season too. It’s a big moment for families, and also a great opportunity for businesses to show up in meaningful ways. Thanks for the reminder — and the inspiration!
Fascinating trends! The early back-to-school shopping surge really stands out this year
The real opportunity lies in bridging categories - like tennis skirts that transition from court to class.
