JRA Architects designed a pavilion, which will be part of the SJ@Play play and wellness complex and we’re asking for your support on #GiveForGoodLou! Lucas Wheeler, Associate, AIA with the architectural firm, talks about the inspiration behind the design. Also, hear from Marchelle Crawford, Foster Care Specialist at St. Joseph Children’s Home, about how the pavilion will benefit our foster families. Hey everybody, it's Gift for Good Louisville Day. We are so excited to kick off our playground campaign here at Saint Joseph Children's Home. I'm Leanne Alsop, the development director here. I have Lucas Wheeler here with me from JRA Architects and Marshall Crawford. She is with the Saint Joe's foster care team and we are going to get their perspective of one. Part of our plans for the playground is the new pavilion. So this is going to be just one little aspect on the whole big project. So Lucas, tell me, what are some key aspects of the pavilion? That you've helped us design Well, sure, yeah. So when we received this project, we knew that this was going to be a space for kids to congregate and their families to be with them. So we wanted to design A space that would kind of encompass all of the surrounding campus and being able to create a spot for kids to learn and play and and really enjoy themselves. So a couple of the key features that we implemented was. Early on in the the iteration of our designs, we were looking at what does the pavilion mean for the kids. We looked at it in a couple of different scenarios, like if it was a stage or if it was a indoor classroom, if it was, you know, a sculptural piece on the on the park. So we we kind of took all those elements and implemented that. So something in something intriguing that will be on the pavilion is these clear story. Windows and they have the colors of the Saint Joe branding. So bringing a personal touch onto the the playground is, you know, something that would be really fun for the kids. Yeah, I think it's gonna be beautiful. We're really excited. So tell me, how has your experience been working on this project with us? Well, it's been great. It's it's been a very collaborative process. Christian Booker from Booker Design and everybody at Saint Joe's have been so great to work with. And we're really just placing ourselves in the shoes of the kids. And, and really making sure that they get the experience that they deserve and in a safe space for everyone to be in. Yes, yes, we love that too. We love working with you guys as well. One last question for you. How should the community be impacted by this And why should they care about what we're building on our campus? Well, we think it's, it's extremely important to invest in the kids of the next generation all too much. I think kids get overlooked and we just, we want to put the, the care and attention and the, you know what they deserve. And we just, we really think that this campaign is a very important thing for our community and that these kids are gonna be, you know, wanting to be in this area and setting them up for the best possible future, you know, is, is all we could ever ask for. So, yes, wonderful. Thank you. We've loved working with you guys, too. All right, I'm going to jump over to Marshall now, the expert in foster care. So, Marshall, tell us, how is this going to impact our families that we serve? Well, it's going to bring us closer together. To engage with our our homes, our new families that are looking to bring kids in their homes. It gives them a safe place and space to do everything. I'm so excited for this. Umm, with all the talks that's been going on, like it is gonna be the best thing for this campus and our foster families and our kiddos. Yes, that's right. We're so excited to get started. We want you to help and be a part of this. So head over to our Gift for Good page. And make a donation today. Thanks.
We're so excited to see this project come to life!
