UMH Properties was proud to showcase three homes at U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Innovative Housing Showcase on September 9–10, 2025. This annual event highlights the innovations shaping manufactured housing and welcomed leaders such as HUD Secretary Scott Turner and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, along with members of the public who toured manufactured homes—many for the first time. Our featured homes included a Ritz-Craft model with GAF Energy solar shingles and an Anker home battery (now at Cinnamon Woods in Maryland), a Cavco Industries, Inc. home (now at Rolling Hills in Pennsylvania), and a Champion Home Builders, Inc. home (now at Woodland Manor in New York). Events like this demonstrate how manufactured housing is an essential tool in addressing the housing crisis.
Hi everyone. I'm TC Shepherd with UH Properties. We're so excited to participate in Hud's innovative housing showcase this year and Washington DC on the National Mall. We have brought three quality affordable homes built by Kafco, Champion and Ritz Craft. These homes feature updated designs, solar shingles and car charging batteries. America is facing a serious housing crisis of four and a half million homes and UMH is proud to be a solution and offer quality. Attainable housing for all American families. Hello. Is this your first time in a manufactured house? Actually it is. And I'm actually amazed at how beautiful stunning these homes are. You know, you just have this image of what a modular home is, but I have to like stay in person. These are actually stunning and I would buy one in a second. I can't wait to buy my own manufactured home really and tell my friends about it too. It's a very nice sized house. Very well laid out, really modern open light. It's, it's, it's, it's a great place. Yeah. And, and from what I understand, the prices are affordable. You know, regular folks can actually buy them. Umm H is very proud to be a main sponsor of the Innovative Housing Showcase. It's a great opportunity to interact with legislators and legislative staff. It's a great opportunity to try to break down the zoning. Barriers that prevent us from creating additional affordable housing, we can improve the financing for the retail customer as well as financing we received to buy rental home. So setting up these homes right here near the Washington Monument and right near the White House and being so convenient for people from the federal agencies to come see our houses and understand what we do, it's an incredible benefit to the company and we're very thankful that MH I arranges this for us. Hello, my name is Mary Jo Hooton and I'm the Administrator of the Office of Manufactured Housing Programs. In the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Today on the Mall in Washington DC, manufacturers have come out and displayed manufactured homes for the public to walk through an experience. This creates such an affordability option. A manufactured home is built very similar to a stick built home. But at a much more inexpensive price point, putting affordable housing within reach of a many Americans who would otherwise be shut out. And want to congratulate everyone today on their hard work in putting this demonstration and exhibit together. As we look forward to the coming year and addressing the affordable housing crisis, manufactured housing will play a big role. I wish you all the best. Thank you for coming out. Our Vice President of Sustainability and we have Charles Dawson, where Jeff, to explain our solar home and its battery functions. Yeah, so right. On this home, you have Timberline Solar. You can't see it in this shot, but Timberline Solar is a roof integrated solar system that can be built in the factory, installed in the factory and shipped to the site, right. And the reason that's important is that it helps make units like this that come with solar systems. And a battery back potentially super affordable to homeowners, right manufactured housing is a huge step in the direction of making housing affordable. And what we do, what we do as a GF Energy is we provide the solar shingles and then we partner with, you know battery manufacturers that allow us to put a system together that one cuts the. Total energy usage and the cost of operating the home and then also provides resiliency right in storms and depending on how you size the batteries you can potentially supply all of the homes electric needs from the solar coupled with the battery This particular technology is equipped with ability to get. Connected to the to your Wi-Fi and it receives updates on storms. So let's say there's a storm that's predicted like tomorrow. This battery will make sure that it's fully charged so that if indeed you lose power, you have 100% battery capacity to power those essential things that you need in the home. And how does the battery get charged? So you can set it up where the battery gets charged from the grid or directly from the solar, right. So let's say you're, you're not home during the day, you know, essentially you're just using your fridge and a few other vital. Electrical loads. You can then set this battery to charge fully using power from this solar and then you can discharge it at whatever time you you have. This particular battery also comes with an app, so in real time you can change, you know, the source of your power. Like hey, I want my fridge to be fully powered by the battery that's fully charged or hey, I just want to store the power and use it at a different time. And if we were to have a few critical loads going at the fridge, Wi-Fi and some bedroom lights, how long would that last? So it depends on really how much power these appliances draw. But this particular assembly, what you see here can chart, can essentially power your fridge and a few other essential things for up to 24 hours or so and then charge overnight and then the cycle keeps. Innovation here is that with traditional. Rack mounted solar. You cannot do this. You cannot install it. Well, to my knowledge this hasn't been that. You cannot install it on a home in a factory. Put it on the highway and travel at 75 mph and get it to the site and basically set the home so we allow. Communities that. Typically would not get solar or would only get solar after the fact to get solar affordably.
