Father Dowd, along with a small group of ND leaders that included Board Chair John Veihmeyer, extended to the Holy Father the prayers and good wishes of the entire Notre Dame family as he met with Pope Leo on Friday. Their discussion centered on the role Notre Dame and other Catholic universities can play in supporting the Church, addressing the challenges of our times, and fostering human flourishing. Father Dowd presented him with a sculpture of St. John Henry Newman, the newest doctor of the Church, created by Rev. Anthony J. Lauck, C.S.C., a longtime member of Notre Dame’s art department. The audience concluded with Pope Leo bestowing a blessing upon all members of the Notre Dame family.
Hope ND backs Pope Leo on the immigration issues. Sorry for interjecting a serious topic.
Who’s Papa Leo backing in the College Football Playoff? Go Irish!
I’d rather see Pope Leo in the stadium than AC/DC - University of Notre Dame
A sculpture? How about a Marcus Freeman signed jersey for him to wear while watching the game?
So blessed.
God, Country and Notre Dame! What an amazing experience! Thank you for sharing!
I unknowingly asked Father last year what he did. Admin he said. Humble.
Pope Leo might really consider to do a speech ND graduation ceremony now.
Hope Father Dowd invited Pope Leo to visit Notre Dame!
