😂 A little truth from Procurement life… We identify brilliant saving opportunities — negotiate hard, align suppliers, lock in great commercials. On paper, it’s a blockbuster deal. 🎬 But then implementation day arrives: 👉 Operations: “We’ve always done it this way…” 👉 Finance: “Show me the numbers… again, and again, and again.” 👉 Quality: “Not without 6 more signatures, please.” 👉 End-users: “Why fix what’s not broken?” End result? Savings stay in the PPT… not in the P&L. 📉 💡 Truth is: Procurement can initiate savings, but only cross-functional teamwork can make them real. ✅ So how do we fix this plot twist? Early Involvement – Invite stakeholders in from scene one, not after the movie is shot. Shared KPIs – If everyone has skin in the game, no one can walk out of the stadium. Transparent Communication – Talk about the why (business value), not just the what (savings %). Celebrate Wins Together – Because who doesn’t like being in the group photo of success? 📸 ✨ Procurement may write the script, but the Oscar for “Best Performance in Savings” is always shared across departments. 👉 Leaders in my network: How do you ensure cross-functional teams play with procurement instead of against it? #Procurement #StrategicSourcing #Leadership #Collaboration #ValueCreation
Having spent over two decades in Procurement, I can fully relate to the challenges highlighted here. Identifying savings is only part of the equation ,real impact requires early engagement, cross functional alignment, and a shared commitment to execution. Too often, well-negotiated savings remain theoretical due to lack of operational buy in or delayed implementation. Your point about shared KPIs and transparent communication is particularly critical. Procurement can lead the initiative, but sustainable value is only realized through true collaboration with other related departments. Well articulated. Thank you
Early engagement with the end user (internal customers) of the contract or procured materials or services ensures complete business alignment in achieving the desired outcomes. Too many times I walk into organisations running in silos, all off differing sheets of music and the end user of the contract or goods, dissatisfied with poor contract performance, poor or incorrect delivery of materials or services and cost overruns. It's easily fixed by communicating well, and clear at the start with your business/stakeholders, rather than attempting to re-negotiate variations mid-way in contract tenure, where there is little or no value to the supplier in doing so.
Vivek, your insights truly resonate. It's a compelling reminder that while procurement lays the groundwork for savings, the real challenge and success lies in collaborative execution. Engaging cross-functional teams early and maintaining clear communication are indeed crucial for transforming strategies into tangible results. I look forward to hearing more about how others in the network have navigated these complexities.
Great insight into the everyday struggles procurement professionals are running into. Aligning all the various departments on the why makes all the difference!
Absolutely agreed and very true ....on papper and ppt people support like anything but in actual execution they will always very reluctant for changes and management strategic roles and push is very critical in said situation to make the team engaged and accountable.
Vivek Chhabra , well Said 👍
Absolutely True ...!
So True!
Getting ops, finance, and end-users on board early makes the savings real, not just slides.
