A HUGE WIN - White Bay Power Station received The Greenway Award for Heritage at the 2025 NSW Architecture Awards. “The work at White Bay Power Station is an exemplar of doing “as much as necessary…but as little as possible”. Conservation works backed by decades of careful research and prudent architectural interventions have allowed the building to open to a wide range of contemporary cultural uses and audiences. The machinery and interiors remain, telling the story of the people who worked here as it ushers this mighty building into the present, and into its future as a public, cultural anchor for the regeneration of the Bays Precinct,” commented the jury. Placemaking NSW and Design5 Architects worked carefully to retain and repair the fabric of the building rather than replace it with new materials and were thrilled to receive this prestigious award.
