As the work anniversary messages started pouring in, I wanted to reflect over this weekend on my decade in Amdocs.
In the days of “great resignation/reshuffle”, one wonders what brings loyalty or stickiness to the employer. I found the following 3 elements which worked for me:
- Company DNA: From my initial days in Amdocs, I realized that the company stands for the success of our customers. Once we commit to an engagement it’s all hands-on deck until we meet our objectives. This in turn creates another trait that allows us to stay ahead in the industry and offer the best products and services to our customers. Hence, our cloud-native microservice based open dynamic suite of products were born these are being used to transform the largest CSPs worldwide. This is implemented together with our SAFe based delivery methodologies. Next came, the creations of our technology-based operations with AI / ML, self-healing oriented managed services this ensures seamless services to more than 700 million individuals in the planet. All these are an outcome of another trait: our incessant hunger to grow and succeed in our space. No wonder, we are holding the number one spot in our space for such a long period in the industry.
- Career Growth: I have always believed that one’s growth in career is a two-way street between the employee and the employer. In my case, I took the opportunity to move between different roles at different times to keep learning and expanding my experience. I moved from roles of heading competency centers to managing accounts in Asia Pacific, India & Europe, then moving to heading services in a division, followed by starting a new division on digital delivery and currently leading the managed services & cloud execution division. There has never been a dull moment. Recognitions came at the right junctures which only strengthened my loyalty to Amdocs. One such moment was standing on the steps of Harvard Business School on a sponsored executive program, after being recognized in the 2018 Business Leadership Summit.
- People: In the last 10 years, I have come across wonderful people in Amdocs, many of whom transcended from colleagues to friends. This ecosystem in Pune (apart from the city’s own advantages) will hold me back from returning to my hometown of Kolkata forever. With the countless trips to Israel, I have come across such wonderful people, that the place feels like my second home. I have been made to feel a part of the family at every point over the last several years. Then there are people across many other countries with whom I have worked closely in the last several years. Throughout these 10 years, I have built an extended family with whom I have sweated, toiled, laughed, ate, celebrated, and spent a significant portion of my life.
My stint of a decade is a result of this DNA of the company which runs in my blood, the endless opportunities that kept coming & challenging me every time I thought I am reaching a steady-state and the numerous people in Amdocs spread all over the world who have occupied the space in my mind and heart. Looking forward to the next amazing decade…
