Bulldogs Mean Business: Young Alumni Panel
The future seems so far, but in reality, it is closer than you think. On November 12th, Bulldogs Mean Business hosted its Young Alumni Panel. Bringing together recent graduates to talk about life after college and the steps to success they took to get where they are today.
Celeste Littrup shared her insight to “Take the opportunity, even if it’s something you don’t see yourself loving. Gaining that experience gives you more knowledge about what you do and don’t like.” Each experience you have is meaningful. The more experiences you have, the more you learn about the world around you. Experience is what sets you apart from other candidates for a job.
How to network is a common question college students ask. Networking can be done anywhere, whether it is in a class, at career fairs, or an RSO on campus. Networking is more than just sending a connection request on LinkedIn; it is meeting new people and fostering new relationships.
Emma Moore pointed out, “Network with everyone, not just people with power. You will never know who knows who. By simply connecting with someone and giving them something to remember when an opportunity arises, they will think of you.”
Emma also shared insights on the transition from school to work, it is easy to compare your life to others. The reality of job searching after college can be hard. Don’t get lost in the idea you are falling behind by seeing your classmates get jobs right away. It is okay to struggle a bit just take your time.
Emma noted that while in your career, set little goals for yourself to set you up for your dream job. By setting up these goals, you add every motivation to your work to build you up for that dream job.
Life after college can seem daunting with all the aspects that go into landing that job. But in reality, it is exciting to be able to take that next step towards who you want to be. Take the initiative and take on those opportunities, small or large. Be the Bulldog you want to be.
