NEBOSH reaffirms its impact over UK health and safety
The latest NEBOSH Jobs Barometer reveals how the majority of health and safety job roles advertised in the UK require or prefer NEBOSH qualifications.
The research, which examined 117 individual job listings advertised between 14 July and 23 August 2025, found that more than 85% explicitly referenced NEBOSH qualifications.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate was the most commonly cited, appearing in 61% of roles. The NEBOSH Diploma featured in 18%, while 12% of adverts mentioned the NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
NFPA and FPANZ sign MoU to strengthen fire safety collaboration
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Fire Protection Association New Zealand (FPANZ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance fire and life safety across New Zealand.
According to the organisations, the agreement focuses on knowledge sharing, training and the exchange of resources between the two associations. The MoU was signed during the FireNZ 2025 Conference in Auckland, which also marked FPANZ’s 50th anniversary.

Evac+Chair win at 10th Birmingham Business Awards
Evac+Chair , has been named the winner of the ‘Accessibility in Action’ category at the 10th Birmingham Business Awards.
This award acts as recognition of its life-saving work and expertise in evacuation of the mobility impaired during emergencies.
The awards, held on Friday 17th October at The Eastside Rooms, celebrate the businesses and individuals driving positive change across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
NAIT Applied Research partner with Peavine Métis Settlement
NAIT Applied Research has partnered with the Peavine Métis Settlement to develop a wildfire detection system designed to help protect the community. The project comes after the devastating Grizzly Complex wildfire in May 2023, which forced the evacuation of the settlement and left lasting emotional and environmental impacts.
Lynn Smith, Regional Planning Coordinator with the Peavine Métis Settlement explained: “It has been a couple of years since the 2023 fire that had us evacuating our homes, since then it has been haunting to watch others go through the same trauma every time a wildfire pops up. We are ever so grateful to all that helped our community and in turn I feel this project is a way of paying it forward, by partnering with NAIT and creating an early warning system."
London Fire Brigade plan to refurbish its headquarters
London Fire Brigade has revealed it has submitted a planning application for the refurbishment of its site at 8 Albert Embankment.
The application also includes plans to modernise Lambeth Fire Station, which forms part of the building. The building at 8 Albert Embankment was constructed by the Brigade in the 1930’s as a combined fire station and office block.
The fire station occupies the ground and first floors of the building, with six floors of office space above.

UL Solutions issues battery fire prevention advice amid rising household use
UL Solutions has issued advice on preventing fires linked to rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, calling for greater awareness of thermal runaway and its hazards.
The organisation said these batteries power millions of everyday devices, including phones, laptops, tools and electric bikes, making household exposure widespread.
Thermal runaway is described as a self-heating process that can cause extreme temperatures, smoke, toxic off-gassing or explosions. UL Solutions stated that understanding and prevention are key to protecting people and property from these risks.
London Fire Brigade celebrate staff for Black History Month
London Fire Brigade has celebrated the contributions of its staff during Black History Month.
The Brigade are shining a spotlight on individuals whose leadership and advocacy continue to drive positive change across the organisation.
As part of this year’s celebrations, five staff members were nominated for the “Unsung Hero Award” sponsored by the Greater London Authority (GLA) Staff Networks, LFB Fairness and the Black and Ethnic Minority Members (B&EMM) network, recognising their outstanding impact on inclusion, community and leadership.

Magirus GmbH s has opened a new sales and service centre in Schongau, Canton of Lucerne, marking an expansion of its Swiss operations and customer service capacity.
The company said the facility was officially opened during a two-day event held last weekend.
