Our Unlimited Potential vs. Our Self-Imposed Limitations

Our Unlimited Potential vs. Our Self-Imposed Limitations

Isn’t it fascinating the unlimited possibilities within us? It’s probably equal as the amount of self-imposed limitations.

I kick-off the year and the decade with this post as a reminder that for every possibility, we have a self-imposed limitations, we do have INFINITE POTENTIAL, and yet we also have incredible impositions just blocking everything.

When I moved to San Francisco in October 2016, as naive as I could be, I never thought Trump would be elected and be to be sincere, I had no plans whatsoever to be launching my 1st fund a few months later.

One thing that truly motivated me to take action was exactly him being elected. With his racism and sexist words, I felt so insulted, it made me upset with human kind and at the same time activated my rational side telling me: take action!

Maybe most of you who are reading this don’t follow the Venture Capital industry so it's important to give some context, only 11% of decision-makers (partners) at VC firms are women in the US. Black women make up 1%, while LatinX women represent 0%!! As soon as I learned about it, became an obsession for me to change the data for the better, that was my way of taking action and making a statement representing immigrants, Latinos, women and human beings.

Soon enough, I became the FIRST Latina to be founder and sole GP of a venture capital in Silicon Valley, where I raised $29M for my debut fund Babel Ventures. I knew it was far from being enough, I’ve been unstoppable, soon after BABEL I also co-founded Ausum Ventures and most recently launched UMANA, a multi-family office to serve those who I like to call the world’s most powerful, influential and misunderstood individuals (aka rebels). Has been 3 years that I have set that goal and as of today I have an AUM (amount under management) that exceeds $250M and Trump being impeached! Oh well.... What else can I say?!

To be fully transparente, my mind didn’t know how magnificent could be the contributions I have to make to a more beautiful world but my heart knew it was possible. Today I’m confident that I have an indispensable gift, and I’m applying to something I truly care about, a more caring and awaken humanity, one that takes action. I highly recommend doing the same, unless you do, you will feel like you aren’t really living your life. You will live the life someone pays you to live, caring about things you are paid to care about. You can make a different choice. I’ve been lauded by breaking all the rules but truth is I structured my life in accordance of myself, I created my own rules.

With all that said, my final advice is: Do not believe the cynical voice, hiding your soul’s voice, that says that nothing much can change. That voice is mean and pessimist and will call your dreams: naïve, unrealistic, immature, and irresponsible. Trust your genuine believe that the world can be different, can be better and it go for it, take action! Trust me, it works.
