Reaching Career Goals With an Assist From SaskEnergy
We recognize that reaching educational and career goals takes hard work, dedication, time, and a little help along the way. That’s why we have an educational support program to assist our employees in developing their skills and careers.
Meet Michelle Beckhusen, a Training Coordinator in our Saskatoon office. In April 2025, Michelle will receive her business diploma from Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
It all started in 2016 when Michelle, then working in our planning and dispatch team, was looking to advance her career through education.
With support from SaskEnergy’s educational support program, Michelle obtained her office administration certificate from Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Through obtaining the certificate, Michelle strengthened her skills and knowledge for when she accepted a role as an Office Administrator.
Then, with her sights set even higher, she transferred her credits toward a certificate in business administration, which she completed in 2021.
But Michelle wasn’t done there! In 2022, she enrolled in more courses to obtain her business administration diploma.
“The business administration courses have significantly benefited my advancement to my current role as a Training Coordinator,” says Michelle, who took on this role in 2023 “The human resources courses specifically have helped me gain a better understanding of training and development, which is a major part of my job.”
Michelle adds that the courses she took also helped improve her skills in business communications, project management, conflict resolution and leadership — all of which will be beneficial if she chooses to pursue a management or supervisory role in the future.
Through SaskEnergy’s educational support program, employees can receive financial assistance for courses that are relevant to their positions, or that prepare them for other positions in the company. Michelle’s eligible educational expenses were covered, including course fees, textbooks and even paid time off while she took midterms and finals.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to work at such an amazing company that fully supports and encourages ongoing education and development for its employees,” says Michelle.
The skills that Michelle has developed through her education have allowed her to advance her career within SaskEnergy, and she has set herself up for a positive future.
“This support has allowed me to pursue my education without adding financial stress to my household,” says Michelle. “Plus, it gave me the chance to explore new career opportunities.”
On average, SaskEnergy employees complete 100 courses each year through this program.
Congratulations Michelle.
Congratulations Michelle!
