Steven began his journey with CAE USA three years ago as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer and today serves as a Software Engineering Manager.

Empowering Innovation and Mentorship

From day one at CAE, Steven’s experience has been defined by trust and opportunity. Rather than simply being assigned tasks, he was empowered to make technical decisions that shaped critical projects. “My manager and team trusted me in making technical decisions,” Steven reflects. “Every time there’s a decision to be made—like infrastructure—my manager looks for my input.” That trust became the foundation for his growth and ultimately his transition into a management role.

Steven’s passion for innovation and mentorship has been a constant throughout his career. On the technical side, he thrives in CAE’s Research & Development environment, where he works with the team to explore new initiatives and identify opportunities to apply emerging technologies. “You never get bored because things are constantly changing,” he says. “From the AI standpoint, it’s constantly growing.” This dynamic culture challenges Steven and his team to stay ahead of the curve, whether enhancing simulator technology or developing new AI applications.

One of the most exciting projects he’s worked on is the one he’s been involved with since day zero—an innovational initiative that continues to inspire him. Another defining milestone came early in his career when he led a research project entirely on his own for six months. The success of that effort not only earned the trust of the customer but also secured funding for an additional team member, a key moment that marked the start of his management journey.

Beyond technical expertise, Steven brings a deep commitment to helping others succeed—a passion rooted in his background as a high school teacher and PhD mentor. “Receiving a thank you is more fulfilling than receiving a good job on my work,” he shares. That dedication continues to shape his leadership style and impact within CAE.

Steven’s pursuit of knowledge has always been a driving force. His decision to earn a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of South Florida was fueled by curiosity and a desire to challenge himself. “For me, it wasn’t just about the degree—it was about deepening my expertise and staying curious,” he explains. One day, he hopes to return to teaching as a professor, continuing his lifelong mission to learn and share knowledge.
