Welcome to the second Risk Roundup of 2025!

In this edition, you’ll find details on our SME competition winner, the value of the Elite Business Connect event, and a range of articles to help you get the most from your insurance. There’s also a webinar and article exploring capability and ill health, and we introduce our exciting new AI vehicle telematics provider, Samsara.

How we've been supporting SMEs

You may have seen our recent competition to win £10,000, designed to support an SME through the changes brought about by the Autumn Budget. Thank you again to those who entered. We loved hearing from SME businesses across the full spectrum, all with fascinating stories about their growth and overcoming challenges along the way.

With so many great businesses to choose from, it was not an easy task to pick a winner. However, a restaurant called Chuku’s stood out amongst the rest. As the world’s first Nigerian tapas restaurant, Chuku’s offers a unique experience for diners, and their dedication and care for their staff, community, and business growth shine throughout the work they do.

Keep your eyes peeled on our socials to learn more about Chuku’s story, and what the £10,000 prize will do for this business. Also, the insights from all the entries we received will inform lots of new articles, podcasts, and other content over the coming months, around the needs of SMEs and the challenges they face.

Our partnership with Samsara

Howden has partnered with AI vehicle telematics provider, Samsara, to offer clients a single integrated platform that covers all aspects of a customer’s operations, from fleet management to safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Samsara clients typically see a 30% reduction in claims frequency and specifically a reduction in avoidable slow speed manoeuvre incidents; which we know represents a significant proportion of all motor insurance claims. With an average value of usually more £3,000 per claim, any reduction in these incidents can transform and improve a claims’ experience.
