What was the last book you read?
November is National Literacy Month and is an opportune time to encourage family members to read. There are so many ways to share the love of reading. Here are some ideas to have some fun and celebrate:
· Select a book for the entire family to read and discuss. Have special snacks, sit in front of a fire, and enjoy the quality time with each other.
· Exchange books with a friend or neighbor. You may discover a novel you never thought of reading or a thriller you’ve been wanting to read but never got around to it.
· Join a book club. It’s a chance to meet new friends, socialize, and expand your literary horizons. Be creative with the foods you serve and have them relate to the book. For example, if the book takes place in France, serve French pastries or croissants.
· Volunteer to read to a class of elementary students or patients in a hospital. Not only will you brighten their day but you will find it rewarding.
· Donate books to your local library that can be sold at an upcoming book sale.
· Encourage young children to read. Youngsters may be more receptive to reading if a book is downloaded on a smart device. Take them to the library and let them select a book of their choice whether it be fiction or non-fiction. Light the spark within them.
As J. K Rowling said, "If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book."
Happy reading!
