I had an absolute blast today at our KI Park #Omniverse Pioneers session “#OpenUSD Demystified”! 🚀
We showcased an amazing lineup of innovative expert tools each contributing their domain strengths as #OpenUSD components to our demo factory.
Throughout the session, we demonstrated a wide range of #OpenUSD capabilities: referencing, layering, payloads, inheritance, and variant sets — the #superpowers that make holistic digital twins possible.

Here’s a quick tour through our journey today:
🔹 We kicked things off with a factory building created by Fraunhofer IPA in SketchUp.
🔹 Hervé Fontaine from Innoactive showed how cloud infrastructure enables streaming and hosting #OpenUSD scenes - thank you for providing the #Omniverse Nucleus for our integration scenario !
🔹 I demonstrated how SyncTwin transforms Visio layouts into zone models with initial resource placement - powered by GenAI Image-to-3D.
🔹 Jan Büchsenschütz from RIIICO showed how to integrate point cloud data as segmented meshes to bring the real environment into the virtual model.
🔹 Lars Fritzsche and Jörg Uhlig from imk Industrial Intelligence presented ergonomic and process modeling with ema workdesigner and how these human-centric insights blend into #OpenUSD
🔹 Then it was my turn again to show how to pull parts of their model into ipolog using OpenUSD, create material provisioning assets (like racks), and send them back to the digital twin environment with metadata - later used in a rack configurator.
🔹 Lars Beier from Wandelbots demonstrated how their NOVA OS can be applied in a palletizing robot workflow.
🔹 Stefan Reinhardt from ISG Industrielle Steuerungstechnik GmbH and Julian Z. with Bernd Lüdemann-Ravit from IPI Institut für Produktion und Informatik (TTZ Sonthofen) showcased a complex virtual commissioning setup, combining #OPCUA, multi-model simulation, and elements from ema, SyncTwin, and ipolog using ActionGraph controlled by their virtuos system.
🔹 Georges Maamary from idealworks demonstrated how VDA5050 robot fleet management can be integrated into #OpenUSD from their AnyFleet solution.
🔹 And finally, Markus Herhoffer from EXP Software GmbH showed how their Lora Agentic GenAI can process all gathered #OpenUSD information to answer queries or interact directly with the scene - truly powerful!
