If 240V isn't even high voltage why should I need to isolate? This extract from the Health and Safety Executive's website explains how even an electric shock of less than 50V can result in serious consequences. According to Ohms Law Power = Voltage x Current 🤓 240V x 13Amps = 3,120W of power that needs to find a way of dissapating 💥 DONT LET IT BE THROUGH YOU! ❌ Moral of the story = Any voltage has the potential to cause harm so if possible isolate and lock off the supply of electricity and test for dead before carrying out work on electrical systems ⚡🔐👍🏼 #Lockouttagout #ElectricalSafety #Electricity #Safeisolation

What do your methods say about you? 🤔 Working practices in the electrical and Gas industries are constantly evolving. Methods that were considered standard procedure a few years ago might be deemed insufficient by today's standards ❌ Keeping up to date with regulations, standards and best practice is a constant challenge for technicians but it starts with access to the right information and equipment 📖🧰 For example we often hear people say that they use electrical tape to isolate from fused spur units. However this practice actually isn't isolation as defined by Health and Safety Executive Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 that state: "That suitable means of isolation of equipment should: include, where necessary, means directed at preventing unauthorised interference with or improper operation of the equipment, eg means of locking off" Spurlok ensures that isolation is achieved as outlined in legislation such as EaWR 1989 aswell as regulations and standards including BS7671, HSG85 and TB118a 📚✅ Just because you have done it one way for your entire career it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best way to do it today.
