We had a wonderful technical tour yesterday led by Emma Poirier and Tracy Jessen who showed us a few projects HRM has in the works. We visited the site of a future shoreline project: Shore Road: Building with Nature project which involves the construction of a nature-based approach for erosion mitigation along a 480m stretch of Shore Road in Eastern Passage. This approach consists of a new slope with native vegetation, a cobble beach, and a submerged breakwater to dissipate wave energy. We also visited Penhorn Lake Beach, which the city has been working to re-naturalize by planting native plants and shrubs that help with water retention and water filtration. Other benefits include improved biodiversity and protection from erosion. We were joined on our tour by a feathered friend, pictured in the group shot! 🦆 #naturalization #assetmanagement #conference
