🇪🇺 Haven’t learned about Europe’s new water regulations yet? 👉🏼 In a nutshell, here’s what will change for all EU member states over the next years: The EU has reached a political agreement to update its water legislation last month, including stricter rules for #PFAS, #pesticides, #pharmaceuticals and other #pollutants. ⏰ What’s happening next? 2027 → Member States must transpose the new directive into national law 2033 → First compliance deadline for revised environmental standards 2039 → Full compliance for surface water and groundwater quality Up to 2045 → Extensions (possible only in exceptional cases) 👏🏼 The update brings PFAS (including TFA) officially into the list of priority pollutants and introduces tighter, more consistent monitoring obligations. Even if the full deadlines are still years away, the pressure on utilities and industry will rise fast, especially with PFAS limits in drinking water already tightening already from 2026 onwards. PFAS detected in Germany’s drinking water. 🚨 New tests by the environmental organization Bund Für Umwelt Und Naturschutz BUND found PFAS in 42 out of 46 water samples across Germany. ❌ Some already exceed the new limits that will take effect from 2026. Even samples from the Berlin government district showed measurable levels. These “forever chemicals” are everywhere: in packaging, textiles, and firefighting foams. Once they reach groundwater, they stay. Upcoming #PFAS limits will challenge water utilities and industries to act fast. The #PFAS treatment market is taking shape (and it’s bigger than most people think) Based on recent studies and reports, global spending on PFAS management today is roughly split between:  🕵🏽 Detection: 10–15% 🚰 Removal: 45–60% ♻️ Destruction / Final Disposal: 25–35% Most of today’s investment goes into removal, as new drinking water limits and cleanup rules drive purchases of GAC, ion exchange, and other treatment systems. Detection remains smaller in total value but is growing fast with new testing methods and broader monitoring programs.
