I was named after Alexis Argüello, my dad’s favorite fighter. I grew up watching VHS tapes of classic bouts from the ‘90s. With where AI is today, it got me thinking, what if technology could help rebuild the sport? That’s what Jabbr is building.
We just raised $5M to change combat sports forever 🥊 Our vision for Jabbr has stayed true since the beginning: To introduce a new era of combat sports through AI driven video streaming, fight stats, and scoring. Today we are thrilled to announce we recently closed a $5M seed round led by Buckley Ventures (early investors in Flock Safety, Rippling, Figma), with participation from Seven Seven Six 7️⃣7️⃣6️⃣ by Alexis Ohanian Sr. (Reddit), John Zimmer (Lyft), Andre Ward (Olympic Gold Medalist), PSV, and many others. We’re grateful to the people who shared our conviction in a better future for boxing when the first tech-demo of our AI, DeepStrike, went viral back in October 2022. Since then DeepStrike has been trusted on the world’s largest stage, debuting our signature stats and highlights to millions on DAZN and TNT Sports. This funding fuels the next phase: making the DeepStrike AI available to everyone. Soon any gym or fight venue will be able to record, live-stream, and analyze matches with pro-level production. About 18 months ago I took a leap into the unknown and founded Jabbr. As a lifelong fan of boxing, I'd grown increasingly frustrated with corruption in the sport, as well as the lack of analytical video tools that have become standard in other sports. "The Sweet Science of Boxing" was trailing on tech adoption, I wanted to change that. Since then I've had phenomenal support from Jan Lægaard Broni and Irene Zeng in setting up the business, Elias Obeid has joined as a co-founder, and Jakob N. K., Julien Nérée, Remi Hingst among many others have continuously been giving fantastic advice, sparring, and encouraging words during long nights of math, code, and boxing. Now 18 months later, we've built something we think might have a very big impact on a sport with 500 million fans globally. Our AI, DeepStrike, measures millions of data points during a fight that it funnels into 50 metrics for each boxer, not only punches thrown, landed, and their quality, but also many other aspects such as footwork, balance, stance, etc. We're now in talks with some world class fighters and coaches, and are pushing hard to make a beta open for select users later in 2022.
