    I spent last week in Barcelona asking 30 experience leaders to design for a world that doesn't exist yet. The scenario: It's 2032. Gen Alpha are becoming city mayors. Portugal just announced Bionic Ronaldo for the 2040 World Cup. And Pulse - a platform that tracks belonging like GDP - needs a flagship experience. Emotional data is infrastructure. Critics call it surveillance. Believers call it salvation. Their challenge: Design an experience that proves belonging at scale is real. We decided to use no screens. Just worksheets, Sharpies, and scraps of paper. Tight constraints, working with peers. Implement three key experience design tools. Then 3 minutes to pitch your team's concept. The goal wasn't to solve for a world seven years away. It was to take people somewhere outside their day-to-day so they return to it with a different lens. Thanks to everyone who trusted the process (and I gotta say, it was a truly wonderful group). And to The Thought Partnership and IBTM World for giving us the space to travel in time. See you in 2032.     IBTM World has been three full 💛 days of fun, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous (#coachtrips). Experiential marketers rarely get time to meet up together & talk the turkey 🦃but the Exceptional Experiences programme flips that on its head. The Thought Partnership curated two days of workshops, programming and activities for 30 event leaders and all of them brought their A-Game. 💌 Some highlights (TLDR: the experience economy is advancing at pace): ⚒️ Keep it simple. What are your event goals?  What do you want people to know, feel and do? Keeping this laser focus will cut out the fluff. Ella Weston 👓 For event design, AI is infrared vision. For planning and making predictions it sees things that are invisible to the naked eye. However - it's not perfect sight. Human judgment still matters Howard Gray 💀 “The 4Ps are dead”. Instead think about: Who is the audience? How do we build fame? How do we make ourselves easy to find? How do we make it hard to leave? Elfried Samba 🪄 True “sliding doors” serendipity is beautiful but rare. Intentional event design which focuses on 'structured serendipity' is essential. Ask Lina Beaudin more....   📏 Focus on producing fewer, more impactful events - and on owned properties, not paid. Currently the most popular metrics are on engagement, sales, NPS, ROI. We’re moving away from reach to engagement (but see below) Oscar CEREZALES 👬 Co-created experiences lead to better connection and recall. Even something as simple as a personalised lanyard  (see Alessandro Teichner) can make an experience more memorable.  Benjamin Wymer 🎢 Build momentum and excitement before events. Coachella creates digital stages, Disney streams rollercoasters…think how you can do this in your own context. 🔥 A main catalyst in the growth of experiential marketing has been its symbiotic relationships with content & social. While the effectiveness of experiential is long-recognised, the challenge was reach. Put against traditional media it was hard to compete. Now, thanks to the ability to generate content from experienced and amplify it at scale in a targeted and cost effective way, the modern marketing era is one that can be experience led. Adam Azor ✏️ Allow personalisation but avoid personalisation paralysis. The paradox of choice is real. Keep it simple. Is JOMO (joy of missing out) the new FOMO? Lea Karam Kelly McCormack 🌲 "Community" is a buzzword but think about what purpose it serves and why you’re trying to create one. The EVENT can BE the community. And think about your audience. Does the C-suite want to watch endless hours of digital content? Probably not. What’s the value exchange you’re offering? Gareth Kelly Todd Hansen Berit Block Bring more joy.     We had a blast over 3 days in Barcelona. The Thought Partnership convened the largest group of Experience leaders for the Exceptional Experiences programme that we've ever had, and WOW they were all fabulous. A few highlights below, but as we know it's all about those impromptu moments, the laughter and the connections. As Jimmy Knowles put it so well, "focus always on being B2H - business to human." ✨ We reimagined the future with an AI inspired workshop run by Howard GrayElla Weston made us remember how simplicity can beat out complicated, honour your guests' and speakers' time 🗞️ Ali Jones and Beth Gordon took me back into the media world and talked us through being mission led and what to do when you don't have huge budgets 📀 We had Amazon's Jameka Pankey (She/Her) and Amanda B. take us through the authenticity behind entertaining with an on stage dance party 🤯 Julie "Hesta Prynn" Potash Slavin, LMFT blew our minds, by rewiring them through music and play 🤜 Lina Beaudin and Lori Rodney talked us through the psychology of meaningful connection 📣 Elfried Samba educated us on creating fame through social platforms To everyone who joined, we appreciate your contributions, your time and your joy.
