So happy to have joined the 14th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems in London organised by the Centre for compressors technologies at City St George/University of London and supported by IIR through a longstanding partnership. The compressor is the heart of the system. It is the highest electricity consumer component in RACHP systems, and therefore the largest potential for efficiency gains. It can consume up to 70%. I heard this morning in of those sessions it is accounting for more than 10% of the total industrial electricity use in the UK. Similar figures for Europe. The conference discussions put compressors at the frontline of innovative technologies. Cutting edge techs and designs exist and market ready: oil free and magnetic bearing compressors, isothermal compression, advanced positive displacement and more, all supporting the transition to clean refrigerants. The role of AI in all these advances is transformative. A heartfelt thank you to the conference chair, the brilliant mind and inspiring scientist Professor Ahmed Kovacevic and for the co-chair Ivona Ivkovic-Kihic for the smooth and excellent organisation. Beyond the sessions, I truly appreciated the chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues, and to meet many inspiring people pushing our field forward. Miriam Rodway, Graeme Maidment FInstR Dave Pearson Andy Pearson Christiane Thomas, Eckhard A. Groll Davide Ziviani, the US National Committee to the IIR USNC/IIR and many more! See you hopefully all in the future IIR events! In the meanwhile, keep efficient, and stay natural 😊
