About us
The International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) is a major biennial conference that brings together researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, activists, and community leaders to address the challenges of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Africa. It is organised by the Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA). SAA envisions an African continent free of HIV, TB and Malaria, promptly and equitably responding to emerging infectious diseases and their debilitating effects, with no stigma and discrimination against PLHIV, key and vulnerable populations and with active political commitment to the Abuja Declaration. The conference focuses on sharing the latest research, strategies, and best practices for prevention, treatment, and care. It also aims to strengthen partnerships, promote advocacy, and mobilise resources to combat HIV/AIDS and related issues on the continent. ICASA 2025 will be in Accra, Ghana, from 3rd to 8th December.

At the official opening of ICASA 2025, the vice president of Ghana, Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, spoke powerfully about how Africa must finance its own response by strengthening local financing systems and empowering communities. She reminded us that the continent cannot outsource its health security and that lasting progress depends on sustainable, long-term, data-driven investment. She highlighted Ghana’s commitment to free primary health care in 2026, expanded long-term support for chronic conditions through MahamaCare, and the push to grow local pharmaceutical production to reduce dependence on external suppliers. Above all, she emphasized that prevention must remain at the center of our response because true health sovereignty begins with building our own strength from within. #ICASA2025 #SAA #AfricaHealth #MahamaCares #JaneNaanaOpokuAgyemang
