Our Co-Head of WPGrow: Start-Up / Venture Capital, Kyle Lee, and Partner Jolynn Lim recently participated in the SVCA Fundamentals in Private Equity and Venture Capital Workshop, where they delivered a presentation on legal due diligence in venture capital and private equity transactions.   Their session provided valuable insights into key areas of focus in legal due diligence, such as regulatory compliance assessments, review of contractual obligations, and evaluation of intellectual property.   The workshop brought together participants from across the investment community, including fund managers, institutional investors, family offices, corporates, and other professional advisers.

Last month, Gillian Lam, our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Partner participated as a panel speaker at a Lunch & Learn event, “Drafting Arbitration Clauses in Hong Kong: What Every Corporate Lawyer Should Know”, co-hosted by Thomson Reuters, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), and the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Hong Kong.   Together with Joanne Lau, Secretary General of HKIAC and other experienced panelists from Thomson Reuters, namely Robert Head (he/him/his) (Director), Rachel Hui (Senior Specialist Legal Editor), and Iris Zhang (Professional Trainer), Gillian shared critical insights on drafting effective arbitration clauses, avoiding the pitfalls of pathological clauses, and navigating complex multi-contract frameworks. A key highlight was the discussion on how poorly drafted clauses can lead to costly disputes, emphasising the need for precision in arbitration agreements.
