How can regulation keep pace with innovation in the age of AI? On January 21, I joined a World Economic Forum official session, “Regulating at the Speed of Code,” together with Joel Kaplan, Chief Global Affairs Officer at Meta, Maryam AlHammadi, Minister of State and Secretary-General of the United Arab Emirates Cabinet, and Federico Sturzenegger, Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, moderated by Nicholas Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic.   The discussion explored the complex relationship between AI regulation, deregulation, and innovation, bringing together perspectives from government (UAE, Argentina) and industry, including Meta and NTT DATA.   A variety of perspectives emerged during the discussion: ●The UAE is developing an AI‑driven model for agile regulation, using AI to modernize lawmaking and regulatory oversight. ●Argentina is pursuing aggressive deregulation to ensure AI innovation is not constrained by premature or excessive rules. ●Meta advocates for a pro‑innovation policy environment, emphasizing access to talent, data, and energy as critical enablers of AI development. Meta also highlighted open‑source AI as a way to scale innovation globally and support shared values.   I noted that our focus is on accelerating AI-driven business while remaining fully aligned with regulations, with trust as the foundation. As a data center provider, we operate under strict energy and environmental requirements, which makes data sovereignty critical. Many enterprises are hesitant to place sensitive data in public AI, which is why we advocate a hybrid AI model – combining public AI with private AI – to enable trusted adoption.   I also mentioned that regulation and innovation must be balanced carefully, as excessive regulation can slow progress while innovation benefits society. Learning from global use cases, such as COVID‑19 responses, and fostering a shared understanding of AI between regulators and innovators is essential.   Regulation in the AI era is a highly complex and challenging subject. This dialogue underscored the importance of continued cross‑border engagement between governments and industry. Yesterday at the #WEF26, I had the opportunity to meet with Ryan Roslansky, CEO of LinkedIn, and Rodrigo Kede Lima, President of Microsoft Asia. As AI tools and agents continue to evolve at speed, our conversation focused on why redefining the role of humans and leaders is becoming essential for the future of work.   The discussion also included Mino Umehara, Head of Corporate Strategy at NTT DATA, who is closely involved in shaping our AI agenda.   We discussed a particularly important insight: While generative AI already demonstrates strong horizontal capabilities, such as summarization, the automation of industry‑specific and company‑specific workflows remains at an early stage. This contrast – between the perception that “AI is already transforming everything” and the reality that sector‑level transformation is just beginning – was especially striking.   We also explored what responsible AI adoption truly requires – a future in which AI enhances human potential, strengthens leadership, and enables organizations to operate with greater clarity and creativity.   We look forward to deepening our partnership with Microsoft and LinkedIn as we continue this dialogue and work together to shape the next chapter of human‑AI collaboration. #NTTDATA #NTTDATAatDavos #ResponsibleAI #LinkedIn #Microsoft   昨日、#WEF26 の場で、LinkedIn CEOの Ryan Roslansky氏、そして Microsoft Asia President の Rodrigo Kede Lima氏とお会いし、意見交換を行う機会を得ました。なおこの対話には、当社のAI戦略策定に深く関わっている、NTT DATAコーポレート戦略本部長の梅原 稔も参加しました。 AIツールやエージェントが急速に進化する中、今回の対話では、技術の進展に加え、「人」や「リーダーの役割」の在り方についても議論しました。   中でも印象に残ったのは、生成AIの活用をめぐる現状認識についてです。 生成AIは、要約などに代表される汎用的な領域ではすでに高い能力を発揮しています。一方で、業界固有、あるいは企業固有の業務プロセスの自動化については、まだ初期段階にとどまっています。   「AIはすでにすべてを変えつつある」という認識と、実際には業界レベルでの変革はこれから本格化するという現実。この両者のギャップは、非常に示唆に富むものだと感じました。   また、責任あるAI活用のあり方についても議論しました。 AIが人間の可能性を引き出し、リーダーシップを強化すると同時に、組織の意思決定をより明確で創造的なものにしていくことが重要だという認識を共有しました。   今後もMicrosoft、LinkedInとの対話をさらに深めながら、人とAIの協働が切り拓く次の章を共に描いていきたいと考えています。
