Centre for Smart Energy Systems

About us

Our Research Centre’s mission is to help create more sustainable New Zealand industries that sit in harmony with taiao (the environment) and tāngata (the people) through smart energy systems and integration. Founded as a result of the Ahuora AETP project, the centre represents a collaboration researchers from Waikato, Auckland and Massey Universities. We are currently developing an adaptive energy digital twin platform underpinned by the next-generation of energy systems science, that will be accessible to researchers, service providers and large-energy-user plant-owners (e.g. industrial manufacturers).

His findings showed that while the P2G2P system enables grid self-sufficiency and enhances seasonal storage flexibility, it comes with a higher Levelized Cost of Electricity (NZD 0.52/kWh). 🔹 𝑪𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒆𝒅 𝒗𝒔. 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒓 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒂 Naveen also compared a 32 MWp centralized solar farm with a dispersed rooftop solar system using Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology to meet local electricity demand. The study found that V2G systems offer a more economically viable solution with a lower LCOE of NZD 0.19/kWh. Naveen’s work demonstrates innovative approaches to achieving sustainable and economically feasible energy systems for New Zealand communities. #SustainableEnergy #Renewables #P2G2P #VehicleToGrid #EnergyResearch #Ahuora #MasterOfEngineering
